Obituary

Holden – Karen L. (Smith) Marzilli, 41, of Holden, died on Thursday, June 15th in UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus after suffering a stroke while working at Memorial Hospital.

Karen is survived by her children, Anthony Marzilli, Matthew Marzilli and Juliana Marzilli; her mother, Linda H. (Dube) Smith of Worcester; a sister, Lorilee Thomas Smith of Grafton; 4 brothers, Gilbert E. Smith Jr. and Richard W. Smith both of Clearwater, FL and Randy S. Smith and Michael E. Smith both of Worcester; her former husband, Michael Marzilli; many aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces; her boyfriend, Aaron Mott and her best friend, Julia Trombly.

Karen was born in Worcester and is predeceased by her father, Gilbert E. Smith Sr. who died in August 2015. She graduated from South High School and Quinsigamond Community College and was currently attending Worcester State University.

Karen has worked for the last 19 years at UMass Memorial Medical Center where she was loved by her co-workers. She thoroughly enjoyed taking care of her patients and looked forward to going to work.

Karen could be considered an outdoors person, as she loved to fish, hike and especially walking the rail trail through the Wachusett area. Some of her happiest times outside were spent in New Hampshire and on Mt. Greylock. She could often be found reading a good book, but the most important part of her life was her three children. Karen cherished the time that she was able to spend with Anthony, Matthew and Juliana. The nights that were spent playing board games and cards will always hold a special place in their heart.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 19th from 4 to 7 PM in the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. The family asks that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
