Samuel A. Murphy, Jr. 92 currently of Peabody and a former resident of Salem, passed away peacefully at Kaplan Estates in Peabody with his family by his side. He was the devoted husband of the late Ann D.
(Crowley) Murphy.

Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Samuel A. Murphy, Sr. and Marie I. (Cyr) Murphy.
Sam was a graduate of Salem Vocational School. A veteran of World War II, he served in the South Pacific with the Navy as an Aviation Radioman 3rd C. Following the war he returned to Salem and shortly after began working for the U. S. Postal Service and had risen to the level of Postmaster for the town of Danvers at the time of his retirement. Sam was devoted to his wife, family and his church. An active member of the Immaculate Conception Parish, he served in many capacities including as an acolyte/altar server, Eucharistic minister, and member of the choir. Sam was a former member of the Danvers Rotary Club. He will be missed by many.

He is survived by his three daughters, Kathleen A. Swetzoff and husband Jonathan of Arizona, Elizabeth Murphy-Marchand and husband Richard of Salem, Mary E. Conley and husband James of Salem, two sons, Timothy L Murphy and wife Patricia of Colorado, William F. Murphy and wife Susan P of Beverly. He also leaves 11 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Samuel A. Murphy, III and his wife Frances, his sisters, Theresa Freeman, Patricia Schofield and brother, Robert Murphy.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 to be followed by his funeral mass in Immaculate Conception Church, 15 Hawthorne Blvd., Salem at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in Southside Cemetery, Nottingham, NH. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be on Monday, 4:00 to 8:00 PM.
