Obituary

Charles (Chuck) F. Johns, 88, of Derry, NH, died Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Fairview Nursing home in Hudson, NH. He was born in Derry on December 28, 1928, a son of the late Charles and Beatrice (Gionet) Johns.

Chuck was a life long active resident of Derry and communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church. In 1945, he graduated from Pinkerton Academy and then joined the Navy serving on 5 ships during the WWII goodwill tour. After his service, Chuck married the love of his life Barbara and had 6 children. He worked for Indian Head Bank, Pinkerton Academy and Cushman Bakery. One of Chuck’s special accomplishments was his induction into the Pinkerton Hall of Fame several years ago. He was an avid sports fan, and coached the local CYO basketball team for 25 years. During his retirement, Chuck enjoyed playing golf, horseshoes, and watching local high school games, as well as keeping up with his grandchildren. Often referred to as “Lucky Chuck”, he was an incredible man who adored his family and brought such joy to all who knew him.

He is survived by three daughters, LuAnn Gero of Derry, Jennifer M. Lajoie of East Wakefield, and Stephanie L. Kilroy of Nashua, NH; two sons, Charles M. Johns of South Portland, ME, and Jeffrey T. Johns of Londonderry, NH; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara (61 years of Marriage); his son, Bradley A. Johns and sister Frances Marquis.

Calling hours were held on Tuesday May 23, 2017 from 4 to 7 pm, at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, May 24th at 10:00 am in St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, 26 Crystal Avenue, Derry. The burial followed in Holy Cross Cemetery, Gilcreast Road, Londonderry. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: Home, Health and Hospice, 7 Executive Park Dr., Merrimack, NH 03038
