Alda (Carisio) Malvone
4/16/2017

Alda (Carisio) Malvone, of York, Maine, formerly of Medford and Boston’s North End, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, April 16th at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. She was 94.

Born in Vercelli, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Domenic and Lucille Carisio. Following high school, Alda and her husband Luciano married in 1948 at St. Clement Church in Medford. The two began their life together and built a family around the cornerstones of love and devotion.

Alda was the matriarch of her family and the time spent with her loved ones was treasured. There wasn’t anything she cared more about than her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was strong willed with passionate convictions and beliefs. At times feisty and witty, she was also very kind and loving. A woman of faith, she made a point to live her life well in accordance with Christian values.

Alda worked for Sears and Roebuck as an administrative assistant and enjoyed it there. A dedicated and hardworking woman, Alda worked until she was ninety-two. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting and cooking, but never baking. Her children say that her signature dish was her Risotto. On holiday, Alda and her family traveled to York, Maine, where she had a second home. She loved spending time in Maine with the beautiful nature and peaceful environment. Her family will always remember 8:30 Saturday mornings at Holly and Tony’s house. Alda and Luciano loved to visit there for breakfast. What started as an impromptu visit, turned into a tradition that has given her children an uplifting memory.

Some of Alda’s favorites were hot fudge sundaes with vanilla ice cream, provolone and blue cheese and most of all, Gattinara Red Wine. It was one of her staples for special occasions and gifts for close friends and family. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. It was very important to her to spend the holiday together as a family.

Alda loved traveling, especially to Italy. She enjoyed keeping close to her roots, extended family and heritage. Alda always spoke Italian fluently, and could understand many dialects. It was important to her to keep her first language from Vercelli.

Alda was the beloved wife of the late Luciano J. Malvone, who passed away in January of 2017. The two shared sixty-nine loving years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Leonard Malvone, RN and his wife Lucille of Wakefield, Anthony Malvone and his wife Holly of Wilmington, Lucille Miranda of Medford, and the devoted mother-in-law of the late Rosemary Malvone. Alda was the loving grandmother of Paul Malvone and his wife Patricia of Wilmington, Charles Miranda and his fiancé Liana Runge of Melrose, Jennifer Miranda and her partner John Fazio of Medford, A. Zachary Malvone and his partner Tess Buccigrosso, Hannah Malvone, James Doherty and his wife Jessica, all of Wilmington. The loving great grandmother of Ella, Joey, Lily, Brynn and Jamie, she is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Alda was preceded in death by her sister Giale (Carisio) Maggio.

Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, on Saturday, April 22nd at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner Street, Medford at 10AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4 through 8PM. Interment will be held privately.
