Obituary

NORTH GRAFTON- John P. “Jack” Ormond, 76, passed away suddenly on April 14, 2017 at UMASS Medical Center.

Jack was born in Worcester on January 12, 1941, son of the late William J. and Mary E. (Powers) Ormond. He graduated from St. Stephen’s High School where he was a stand-out athlete. After graduation, he went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy where he was assigned to the USS Forrestal from 1959 until 1963.

Following his return from the military, Mr. Ormond began working as a welder at General Motors Corporation. Soon thereafter he joined the sales team at Atlas Distributors where he sold Miller products over the next twenty years. In 1991 Jack fulfilled his dream to open his own neighborhood pub. “Bennie’s Café” was born and over the next 15 years he would form many more long-lasting friendships before passing the operation on to his son Matthew. When he was not busy with the daily operation of the business, he could often be found enjoying a round of golf at Wachusett Country Club, where he was a longtime member and close friend of the Marrone Family. Trips to Ireland will be talked about for many years to come. In his younger years, he spent free time coaching his sons in both bitty basketball and Little League baseball, passing down his love of sports. When not coaching, his cheers from the stands were heard loud and clear. He will always be remembered for his kindness, unending generosity, witty sense of humor, and infectious laugh.

Jack will be deeply missed by his children, Kelly M. O’Malley and her husband Gerard of Holden, Shawn Ormond of North Grafton, Matthew Ormond and his wife Sherri of Grafton; 7 grandchildren, Rose, Grace, and Maeve O’Malley, Asia Ormond, Madisyn, Sophie and Max Ormond; a sister, Grace R. Bovenzi of North Grafton; his former wife, Elaine (Kolakowski) of Holden; many nieces and nephews and countless friends.

He is predeceased by his siblings, William and Patrick Ormond, Ann (Nancy) Dudko, Katherine (Stevie) Carey, Mary (Mitzi) Sweeney, and Helen Ormond.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 18th from 4:00 until 7:00pm at the CALLAHAN, FAY & CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrle St., Worcester.
