Mr. Joseph A. Civittolo, Sr. of Woburn formerly of Arlington passed away peacefully, March 24, 2017, at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington. He was 81 years of age. Joseph was the beloved husband of the late Sylvia A. (Carroll) and together they shared 53 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2013. Born in Cambridge, He was the son of the late Louis E. and Catherine (Doyle) Civittolo.

Joseph was raised and educated in Cambridge, He enlisted into the United States Air Force and honorably served during the Korean War from 1953 to 1957. Joseph was a graduate of Northeastern University where he earned his BS Degree in Criminal Justice. He faithfully served as a Police Officer with the Metropolitan Police for more than twenty years and retired as a Detective in 1981. He was a member of the Arlington Retired Men’s Club, Arlington Sons of Italy, and was very active and volunteered with different Veteran Services as well as being very active in his church. In his leisure time he enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling and was always busy at his home doing yard work. His greatest joy was his family and he cherished spending time with his grandchildren, attending every event that they were involved in. He was always there front and center to give his support.

In addition to his late wife, Sylvia, Joseph is sadly predeceased by his sons, Joseph A. Civittolo, Jr. and Michael Civittolo.

He is lovingly survived by his daughters, Diane Amadeo and her husband Ronald of Woburn, and Sharon Civittolo of Woburn. He was the loving grandfather of Nicholas, Rachel and Alexander Amadeo. Brother of Joan Pulaski of Concord, Ann Richardson of Medway, and Leonard Civittolo of FL and ME. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Friday, March 31st, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 280 Main St., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Interment services will be private. Contributions may be made in Joseph's memory to the Disabled American Veterans, VA Regional Office, Rm 1575B, JFK Fed Bldg. Government Ctr, Boston, MA 02203 or to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
