Grace M. (Kelley) Monty, 90, of Derry, NH, passed away Wednesday, March 8, 2017, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 18, 1927, in Plaistow, NH, a daughter of the late George D. and Sybil (Hathaway) Kelley. Grace graduated early at the age of 16 from Newburyport High School in Newburyport, MA, which allowed her to find employment and join the war effort. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church in Derry, NH. Grace sang in the choir for over 50 years, taught Sunday School, and volunteered at the church to help anywhere she was needed. The most important aspects of her life was her church and her family.
She is survived by her son, Gregory Monty, and his wife Susan; her daughter, Janis Monty-Palmer, and her husband Henry; her grandchildren, Logan Magnon, Tara Monty, Caitlyn Magnon, and Evan Monty; and her sister, Virginia Phillippi; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, John A. Monty Jr. on May 2, 2016.
Following cremation, a memorial calling hour will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a memorial service at 11 a.m. in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
