Obituary

Oxford – David G. Garvey, 72, of Oxford, died peacefully on Saturday, March 4th in his home with his family by his side.

Dave is survived by his loving wife of 51 years Jo-Ann (Cozzolino) Garvey; his 3 children, Kevin D. Garvey, Michelle C. Camerano and Keith J. Garvey all of Oxford; a sister, Sheila L. Garvey of Worcester; his 4 grandchildren, Angela Camerano. Kelsey Garvey, Mikayla Garvey and Leah Garvey. Dave is also survived by sisters in law Rose Cozzolino, Carol and Brian Houlihan, brother in law Joseph and Eileen Cozzolino. Dave had a deep extended family and many dear friends including Walter “Jimmy” Nugent and Jane Lantz, Leo and Kathleen Rouleau. He was born in Worcester, son of the late Roger R. and Rita M. (Hoyt) Garvey.

Mr. Garvey proudly served in the Army National Guard from 1966 to 1972. He graduated from South High School and earned an associate’s degree from New England School of Accounting; he also attended Assumption College. Dave worked as an accountant for American Optical and Guardian Industries before he became a production manager for Injectronics and Tredegar Molded Products. Upon retiring, Dave began driving for Knights Limousine Company and later for the College of the Holy Cross as a transportation driver for the students, as well as working at Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton during the summer months as a Ranger.

Dave loved to be around all of his younger family, whether it was watching them at gymnastics, sporting events or dance competitions and recitals. He was an avid fan of basketball, baseball and football and he loved playing golf. During his younger years, Mr. Garvey was a player on the first semi-fast softball league in Worcester as well as the Jack Benny League in Oxford. One of Dave’s greatest moments was when he was able to pitch against the King and his Court for a fundraiser benefiting his daughter’s Girl Scout Troupe.

Mr. Garvey is the past president of the Worcester Jaycees and the Oxford Little League. He was a man that centered his life around his family and was happiest when he was spending time with them and vacationing to destinations of warmer climates.

The funeral will be held on Friday, March 10th from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. Worcester with a Mass at 10AM in Saint Peter’s Church 931 Main Street Worcester. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 9th from 4 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
