Obituary

Spencer – James J. Berthiaume Sr, 81, died Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Southbridge Rehabilitation Center. He was surrounded by his children and spouse after a battle with his health.

He leaves his spouse of 23 years, Janet (Marando) Berthiaume; two sons, James J. Jr of Auburn, MA and Michael E. of Webster, MA; a daughter. Sandy M. Berthiaume, Sanford, ME; a sister. Nancy Wheeler of Littleton, MA; a son-in-law, Matthew J. Olds of Webster; a niece Maureen (Seith) Smith of Stow, MA; four step children, Billie-Jo Vincent of Brookfield, Jeff Fortier, Ron Fortier and Sonya Mitchell of Wisconsin; four grandchildren and many cousins. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas, Albert and Theodore Berthiaume; a sister, Exina Smith; a son, Lance Berthiaume; two nieces, Katie (Mello) Smith and Pamela Ann (Tarvitt) Smith.

He leaves many friends including David and Sandy Lapierre, Pat King, Ernie Pierce, Kenny Tarvitt and Charlie Floria.

He was born in Worcester, MA son of the late Albert and Ella (Rivers) Berthiaume and graduated from Commence High School and then joined the United States Marine Corp.

His first job was a meat cutter with Synder Beef Co. and then worked as a meat cutter in his first home and later as a fork lift driver for Del Monte Can Good Co. Jim was a natural comedian and made everyone he met laugh. He loved flowers, birds and motorcycles.

A memorial mass will be held on Monday, March 13th at 12:10 PM in the Cathedral of Saint Paul 15 Chatham Street Worcester. Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. Worcester is assisting the family with arrangements.
