Francis “Fran” “Sonny” Spear, 90, of Worcester died Sunday, January 22nd at home surrounded by his family. He leaves his wife of 65 years, Daphine A. (Battles) Spear; two sons, Roland Spear and his wife, Sue of Oxford and Dana Spear and his wife, Cheryl of Webster; three daughters, Teresa Fulton and her husband, David of Mississippi, Penny Litchfield and Jean Spear both of Milford; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Paul Spear.
He was born in Burlington ,VT the son of Bertha Spear. Fran was a member of Park Congregational Church. He enjoyed animals, spending his time fishing and woodworking. He was a jack of all trades. Sonny worked as a mechanic for the City of Worcester for 13 years, retiring in 1990. He previously worked for the town of Rutland, Charles Chevrolet, Harr Ford and Zottoli Motors in Holden. Fran also spent 20 years working on a farm in Vermont.
A calling hour will be held on Sunday, January 29th from 1:00 until 2:00 PM in Park Congregational Church, located in the Davis Chapel Of The First Baptist Church building, 111 Park Avenue followed by his funeral service at 2:00 PM. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Second Chance Animal Shelter, 111 Young Road, East Brookfield, MA 01515 or to Sunday school or the youth group of the Park Congregational Church, 111 Park Avenue, Worcester, MA 01609.
