Janice L. (Casey) Staruk, 84, of Leicester, passed away peacefully in Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, Monday, January 16, 2017. Her husband of fifty-seven years, Joseph P. Staruk, Sr. died in 2008. She is survived by her daughter Cheryl Staruk Cooney and her husband Mick and granddaughter Megan, all of Leicester and her son William Staruk and his wife Karen, grandsons, Nicholas and Michael Staruk , all of Douglas; granddaughter Casie Staruk-Carpenter and her husband Stephen of Narragansett, RI. She was predeceased by her son, Joseph P. Staruk, Jr. and her brothers, Arthur and James Casey. She was born in Worcester a daughter of Arthur and Helena (Willis) Casey.
Janice was a graduate of St. Stephen's High School. Along with her husband Joe, she owned and operated Sutton Falls Camping Area and Lake Manchaug Camping. She was a member of North American Family Camping Association, Massachusetts Association of Campground Owners and the National Campground Owners Association. During their many years together, Joe and Janice enjoyed their family, traveling and the trips to their winter home in Florida.
Janice was a kind and gentle woman who took delight in a day at the beach, the laughter of children and her Irish music. She was a steady shoulder to lean on and a trusted confidante, who would celebrate or commiserate, offering sage advice and a cup of tea. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2017 with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph-St Pius X Church, 1161 Main Street, Leicester. Burial will be in St. Denis Cemetery, 62 Manchaug Street, Douglas. The family will receive relatives and friends in St. Joseph-St. Pius X Church on Thursday, January 19, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Leicester Food Pantry, 759 Main Street, Leicester, MA 01524 OR St. Joseph-St. Pius X Church, c/o the Church Office at 759 Main Street, Leicester, MA 01524.
