Obituary

SHREWSBURY/WEBSTER - Kathleen M. Curry, 61, formerly of Webster, died Tuesday, December 6, 2016 in Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Worcester, after a long illness.

She leaves her mother, Dorothy E. ”Pat” (Degnan) Curry of Oxford; 2 brothers, William F. Curry of Chicago and Michael J. Curry and his wife Linda of Dudley; 3 sisters, Margaret A. Grant and her husband James of Fresno, CA, Dianne M. Govoni and her husband Robert of Northborough, and Carole A. McRell and her husband Robert of Oxford; an uncle and godfather, Gerald Degnan and his wife Carol of Oxford; nieces, nephews, 3 grand-nieces, cousins and many friends.

She was born in Northbridge and raised in Auburn and Worcester, the daughter of the late Francis W. “Fran” Curry. She then lived in Webster for over 20 years, in Millbury for 4 years, and in Fresno for 2 ½ years before moving to Shrewsbury in September. She graduated from South High School in 1973 and attended Quinsigamond Community College.

Kathy first worked at New England Telephone & Telegraph, now Verizon, in Worcester, then in Framingham and finally in Marlborough, retiring as a coordinator of network engineering. She then was co-owner of the former Curves in Worcester from 2004 to 2007. She returned to work at Verizon Wireless in Westborough as an operation coordinator of inventory planning, retiring due to illness 4 years ago. Everywhere she worked, she organized all holiday and retirement parties.

She was a member of Saint Anthony of Padua Church when she resided in Webster. She sang at Masses with her brother Mike and also was a leader in the RCIA program. Her hobbies included country line dancing and memory scrapbook organizing. She enjoyed volunteering the annual Bishop’s Dinner every Thanksgiving for many years. She loved traveling to Maine and to Cape Cod with a group of lifelong friends.

She held the title of “favorite aunt” for all her nieces and nephews. She was known for her hearty sense of humor and infectious laugh.

Kathy was the best of all of us – a loving daughter, a caring sister, a beloved aunt and a devoted friend. Kathy’s strength and kindness were never more evident than during the last 4 years of her life. While living with a debilitating illness, she started each day with a smile and a sweet readiness to engage with those around her.

The family would like to thank the staff at Rose Monahan for their tender care for Kathy during her stay there. Thank you to all friends who visited her and remembered her during her illness.

The funeral will be held Monday, December 12, from Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster, with a Mass at 11:00 in Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 24 Dudley Hill Road, Dudley.
