Obituary

Worcester – Roger L. Blanchette, 85, of Worcester, died peacefully on Friday, December 2, in Saint Vincent Hospital with his family and friends by his side.

Mr. Blanchette was married to the late Jacqueline M. (Bloomer) Blanchette who died in October 2015. He is survived by 2 sons, David Blanchette and his wife, Charlene of Narragansett, RI and Paul Blanchette and his wife, Cheryl of Auburn, MA; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a brother Paul D. Blanchette of Spencer and many nephews and nieces.

Roger was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada son of the late Edward and Simone (Limoges) Blanchette and is also predeceased by a daughter, Susan Barton. Mr. Blanchette graduated from Holy Name High School and served in the United States Army Medical Corp during the Korean War.

Roger earned a bachelor’s degree from Assumption College and then furthered his education by receiving a master’s degree from Colby College. He worked at Saint John’s High School in Shrewsbury for many years where he started his career as a teacher of biology and chemistry and later became the Dean of Studies for the school. Roger was always proud to say that he was the first lay person to retire from Saint John’s High School.

Mr. Blanchette enjoyed spending time with his family and was an accomplished painter, artist and woodworker.

Funeral services will be held privately. Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. is assisting the family with arrangements.
