Obituary

Worcester: William B. Miller, 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by a circle of family on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the Jewish Healthcare Center. He leaves his wife of 68 years, Geraldine (Jackson) Miller; his daughter Jeanne (Miller) Ouellette and her husband Daniel of Center Lovell ME; his sons William “Pete” Miller and his wife Beth of South Dart-mouth MA; Stephen Miller and his wife Jill Tyler of Vermillion SD; and Timothy Miller and his wife Ingrid of Lewes DE. He is much loved by 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Elizabeth Sterrett of Dennis MA. William was predeceased by his sisters, Doris Miller Hartmann and Gertrude Miller Smull.

William, or "Bones" as he was affectionately known, was born in Bethlehem, PA, son of the late William and Mabel (Brunner) Miller. He graduated from Moravian Preparatory School and earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s and Phd Degrees from Lehigh University. During World War II, he served as an Ensign in the Navy and was stationed aboard the USS Massachusetts. He was a Professor of Mathematics at Worcester Polytechnic Institute for 18 years and was the author of two textbooks on differential equations. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church.

Bones’ life was focused on the family that he made with his beloved wife, Gerry. His happiest times were holiday gatherings in Worcester, family vacations in Ocean City NJ, and trips to visit children in Maine, Massachusetts, Delaware and South Dakota. He was a master model maker, creating intricate paper reproductions of cathedrals and castles. He hand crafted a 26 point Moravian Star for his son Steve’s church in South Dakota. Every day of his life he loved and honored his wife, Gerry, and thanked God for all the blessings which had been been be-stowed on him.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the West Side Moravian Church, Bethlehem PA. Burial will follow at Nisky Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in William's memory may be made to the Worcester County Food Bank,474 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury MA 01545 where he and Gerry volunteered countless hours.
