Obituary


Evans, GA – Mitchell Reid Griffith, Sr., 85, loving husband of Edith Rosalie Griffith, entered into rest on Monday, October 24, 2016.

A memorial service will be held at the Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren in Bridgewater, VA at 2:00PM on Saturday, October 29, 2016. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Mr. Griffith was born in Front Royal, VA. He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service. Mr. Griffith received many honors and served during the Vietnam War. He was the past Dept. Vice Commander of the State of VA, past 14th District Commander, and Past Commander of the American Legion Post 27 in VA. Mr. Griffith was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Valley Shriners, Retired VIADA dealer, member of VFW 632 in VA. After retiring from the Army, Mr. Griffith was the owner of Griff’s Auto Sales for 26 years, owner of Griff’s Mini-Mart (VA) for 7 years, and one of the original partners of the Griffith Bag Co. (VA) and served as Chief of Police of Dayton, VA for 5 years. Mr. Griffith loved helping others and working in his shop. He especially loved rubbing Smokey’s belly.


In addition to his wife, survivors include son; Mitchell Reid Griffith, Jr. (Debbie) of Evans, GA, three daughters; Gloria Griffith of Grovetown, GA, Brenda Proctor of Gloverville, SC, Kathy Elledge (Mike) of Grovetown, GA, two brothers; Ray Griffith, Lynn Griffith, three sisters; Mildred Derrer, Judy LIskey, Sue Carol Todd all of VA, nine grandchildren; Mitchell R. Griffith, III, Brett Griffith, Jason R. Lowe, Christie Lowe, Brenda Seigler, Michael Proctor, Julie Johnson, Traci Banks, Dorothy Stensing, seven great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and of course, Smokey the cat. Mr. Griffith was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Griffith, and sister, Nancy Seaman.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 28, 2016 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM at the American Legion Post 27, Dayton, VA.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Evans, GA, at a later date.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dayton American Legion Post 27.
