Obituary


WORCESTER-John Keaney, 77, of Worcester, died Wednesday, October 19, 2016. He leaves his devoted and loving caregiver, wife of 55 years, Helen (McGrath) Keaney, three children; Kelly Kiley, and her husband Ed of Northborough, Erin Moynihan, and her husband Jack of West Roxbury and Sean Keaney, and his wife Jenna of Swampscott. Jack was a loving and devoted grandfather to Maggie, Bridget, Maeve, Jake, Ryan, Liam and Fiona. He also leaves a brother, Kevin Keaney and his wife Eileen of Worcester.

He was born in Worcester, son of John Patrick and Maggie (Carrigan) Keaney. He graduated from St. Peter’s High School in 1957 and the College of the Holy Cross in 1961. He was a former lector at St. Bernard’s Church for 40 years and currently a member of St. John’s Church. Jack worked at Wright Line for 30 years as Credit Manager and served on the Worcester Planning Board for many years. He was active in the Joe Schwartz Little League and Babe Ruth Organizations, the Democratic City Committee and was a Bishop Fund volunteer.

Jack was a man of great faith and humility who delighted in the laughter of his loving family and his many treasured friends. His Irish wit and generosity of spirit will be remembered by many and live on through his family and close friends. Jack’s family would like to thank his caregiver, Jean Dejoinville, for her loving care and compassion that brightened his final days.

Jack’s funeral will held on Saturday, October 22 from CALLAHAN~FAY~CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street, with a Mass at 10:30 AM at St. John’s Church, 40 Temple Street. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Visiting hours are Friday, October 21 from 4:00 until 7:00 pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jack may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472 or to St. John’s Food for the Poor, 40 Temple Street, Worcester, MA 01604.
