Barbara M. (Whalen) McGrail, 87, of Worcester died Monday, October 3rd in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home surrounded by her family. Her husband of 45 years, Richard E. McGrail died in 2007. She leaves a son, Richard E. McGrail with whom she lived; cousins, Joseph and Mary Whalen, Mary Cotterman, Mary MacDonald and Paula O’Neill; and a close friend, Barbara Colicchio. She also leaves her dog, Robin and her cat, Ruthie.
She was born in Worcester the daughter of Edward L. and Sadie R. (Whalen) Whalen and graduated from St. Peter’s High School in 1947. Mrs. McGrail was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and a former member of St. Charles Borromeo Church. She loved to spend her time travelling and visiting historic homes. Barbara has met many famous sports figures and celebrities including Paul Pierce, Joe Montana, Larry Wilcox and Eric Estrada.
Her funeral is Friday, October 7th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant Street. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Leicester. Calling hours are Thursday, October 6th from 5:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home.
