Harold B. Poirier, Sr., 89, of Spencer died Sunday, September 25th at home surrounded by his family. His wife of 14 years, Lillian H. Wiseman died in 1980. He leaves a son, Harold B. “Harry” Poirier, Jr. of Spencer; a sister, Doris Serpa of Rhode Island; a granddaughter, Brooke Poirier of Spencer and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Victor Poirier and Arthur Poirier; four sisters, Yvonne Poirier, Dorilla Barcelow, Irene Murray and Rita Cantello.
He was born in New Bedford the son of Arthur R. and Marie (Poirier) Poirier. Harold was a firefighter for 30 years with the Worcester Fire Department, retiring in 1989. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. Mr. Poirier was a member of the Worcester Lodge of Elks #243 and enjoyed spending his time golfing.
His funeral is Wednesday, September 28th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester with a Mass at 11:00 AM in St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding Street. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. A calling hour will be held from 9:30 until 10:30 AM in the funeral home.
