Obituary


AUGUSTA, GA – A memorial service for Mr. Robert “Bob” Allen Chumbley will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 24, at the Westover Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Rev. Robert Hunt officiating. Mr. Chumbley, the husband of the late Ruby Murray Chumbley, entered into rest September 11, 2016, at a local nursing home.

A native of Pulaski, VA, Mr. Chumbley was a graduate of East Tennessee State University, a veteran of the U.S. Army, and a retired corrective therapist for the Veterans Administration in Augusta. He was a longtime member of Greene Street Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder, member of the sanctuary choir, and leader of the church-sponsored Boy Scout troop. He also was an avid horseman and member of the Belle Meade Hunt.

He is survived by his step daughter Peggy Edwards Sitler of Augusta, his step grandson John Thomas Sitler (Teresa) of Greensboro, GA, his sister Jackie Worrell of Moneta, VA, his brother-in-law David Surface of Blacksburg, VA, two sisters-in-law--Hazel Murray of Augusta and Sara Murray of Cordele, numerous nieces and nephews, and four great grandchildren. In addition to his beloved wife, he was preceded in death by his sister Ann Surface.
