TEWKSBURY - John L. “Jack” Hall, age 81, a well known and respected member of the Tewksbury community, died peacefully Thursday evening, August 18, in the loving care of his family and hospice after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Yvonne M. (Nelson) Hall, with whom he had celebrated a fifty-eighth wedding anniversary this past May.
Jack was born in Zanesville, Ohio, in November 1934, a son of the late Frederick and Mildred (Moore) Hall, and raised in Zanesville. He graduated Zanesville High School, and went on to attend Ohio State College and later the University of Lowell.
He enlisted into the U.S. Army in the peace years between the Korean and Vietnam wars, and attained the rank of Master Sergeant. He earned a sharpshooter and Good Conduct Medal during his six-year enlistment.
Jack began his working career as a draftsman at R.C.A. in Ohio, and retired from General Electric in Burlington, MA, as a Draftsman Department Manager.
Jack had a deep devotion to God and his beloved Tewksbury Congregational Church, and during his life served on most church boards, including Chairman of the Trustees at the church. He also held the position of Life Deacon at the church.
Jack was an accomplished golfer, and headed up the Church Golf League, and maintained a small side job custom building and re-gripping golf clubs under the label “Jack of Clubs.”
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and David Marotte of Windham, NH; a granddaughter, Ashley Paige Marotte; his brother, Frederick F. Hall Jr., of Spartensburg, SC; two nieces Debbie Hall of SC, Diane Williamson and her husband Jay of TX; a nephew, Bruce Hall and his wife Glenda of WA; and many dear friends throughout the area.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, August 23, at 11:00 a.m. in the Tewksbury Congregational Church, corner of East and Main Sts. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Tewksbury Congregational Church, 10 East St., Tewksbury, MA 01876 will be appreciated. Arrangement were through the Tewksbury Funeral Home.
