Worcester – Sonia Romero Elizalde, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at home after an illness surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on August 11, 1926 in Ponce, Puerto Rico, a daughter of Rafael Romero and Josefina Zayas. She worked as a health educator in the public school system in Ponce. She was a resident of Ponce nearly all of her life, before moving to Worcester to be near her family during a period of declining health.
She is survived by her sons, Pastor Raul A. Elizalde and his wife Evelyn of Worcester, Pedro Jose Elizalde of Ponce, PR, Rafael J. Elizalde and his wife Laura of Manassas, VA; one sister, Neiza Dominguez of Ponce, PR; five grandchildren, Laura, Rafael, Laura Victoria, Itamar, and Abigail; and three great-grandchildren, Rafael, Georgianna and Amelia.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Irma Antila and Lydia Romero.
Funeral services will be held at 7PM on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester. Calling hours will precede the service at the funeral home on Sunday from 5-7PM. Burial will be in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
