SPENCER: John P. Desmarais, Sr., 71 of Main Street died Monday, Aug. 15 in Harrington Memorial Hospital after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 2 years, Jane P. (Blauvelt) Desmarais, two sons; John P. Desmarais, Jr. and his wife Suzanne of Tucson, Arizona and Brayden Desmarais of Uxbridge, four daughters; Shelly A. Allen and her husband James of North Brookfield, Tammy L. Lugo and her husband Robert of Cary, North Carolina, Jamie A. Desmarais of Durham, North Carolina and Kiandra Desmarais of Uxbridge, a step-son; Raymond A. Stacy and his wife Kristen of Norfolk, a step-daughter; Tammy L. Robidoux and her husband Joe of Spencer. 23 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter Mary A. Desmarais, a brother Jim Jacques and a sister Shirley Elbeg.
Mr. Desmarais was born in Albany, New York , son of John E. and Irene M. (Marengo) Desmarais. He was a supervisor and purchaser at O.S. Walker Co. in Worcester for many years before retiring. He served his country in the United States Navy. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for 39 years and held the office of High Priest. He served on the Spencer Finance Committee and was very active in the community. He found great joy in spending time with his family. He was very interested in Native American History and collected memorabilia. He was a great impersonator and a joker. He loved to sing and dance.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, Aug. 19 at 11:00 AM in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 108 New Braintree Road, North Brookfield. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. There are no calling hours. J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer is directing funeral arrangements.
