Obituary

Evans, GA - Catherine Marie Tackman was born in Queens, NY to Beaulah (“Betty”) and Charles Kane on July 3, 1934. She was the youngest of four-children.

While working in Long Island, NY, she married Paul A. Tackman shortly after WWII. They chose to settle in the Camillus, NY area and raised five-children. They divorced, but she raised the children by herself and joined Camillus First United Methodist Church. In 2002 she moved to Augusta and joined the Grovetown United Methodist Church, later becoming a valued member of Marvin United Methodist Church. Settling down in Grovetown because of its friendly kindness, and friendship with its wonderful southern charm.

Cathy’s career as a Personal Care Provider at Syracuse Developmental Center developed a love for the handicap, becoming a second mother to many. Wherever she lived, she was active in the church; she taught Sunday school, bible study, taught at Vacation Bible School, and served in the nursery. She sang in the choir all her life, she was a Boy Scout Den Mother, outdoorswoman, canoed all over New York state, fished and hunted. She was a true fighter and her family was her energy, a leader in all she did. Cathy loved all her children; encouraging them to pursue their dreams.

Cathy is survived by her children: Kathleen M. Ruby, Paul A. Tackman Jr., Michael J. Tackman, Eileen M. Salisbury, and Dianne M. Masse. Dianne was her caregiver until her passing into Heaven. Cathy is preceded in death by all of her siblings.

Cathy will be remembered for her straight talk, pleasant smile, humor, and quick wit; with stories that made us laugh at ourselves, and stories of life in decades past. Cathy truly loved life; we will all miss her in our lives, our hearts, and her steadfast faith in God.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at Marvin United Methodist Church with Pastor Elizabeth Ackerman officiating.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 9, 2016 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
