Joseph P. Freitas, Sr., 71, of Derry, NH, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 in his home. He was born in Boston, MA on August 16, 1943, a son of the late Joseph M. and Palmyra (Carvalho) Freitas. He had been a resident of Derry for the past 18 years, formerly living in Somerville, MA. Joseph had been employed for many years as an auto mechanic. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by two sons, Joseph P. Freitas, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Rowley, MA, and Stephen Freitas and his wife Nilza of Somerville, MA; two daughters, Michelle Valente and her husband Nelson of Derry, and Tammy M. Pelletier and her husband Bruno of Hooksett, NH; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four sisters, Sarah (Dolores) Barnstable of Texas, Teresa Gaudet of Burlington, MA, Mary-Jane Rodrigues of Cambridge, MA, and Karen Damaso of Burlington, MA; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Marilyn (Lane) Freitas in 2007.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2015 from 1 - 4pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00am in Holy Cross Church, 187 Hampstead Rd., Derry. The burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery in E. Derry.
