Shirley R. DeCost, 87, of Brockton died June 13, 2014 in the Good Samaritan Hospital. She was born in Whitman and raised in Brockton and was the wife of the late Norman DeCost and daughter of the late Ernest and Anna (Murphy) Henshaw. Following her graduation from Brockton High School in 1944, she went to work as a telephone operator for the Telephone Company and later also worked as a salesclerk for many area retail stores. She was a very caring person and took great pride in rescuing feral cats.
Shirley is survived by her nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews; Gail Kendall, Joy Pierce, Sheri Balzarini, Duane and Brian McGrath, Shannon Kartal, Colleen Crehan, Kristin Martin, Kevin and Keith Balzarini as well as several other great nieces and nephews. She was also the sister to the late Harold Henshaw, Bernice Levine and Phyllis Kendall.
At the request of Shirley all services are omitted. She was buried Wednesday surrounded by her family in the family lot in Pleasant Street Cemetery, Raynham.
