Obituary

Loving Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Uncle & Friend, John Meehan died Thursday, February 6, 2014 in peace. All whom knew John Meehan were affected by his positive, compassionate, and loving personality, which will be forever remembered in his memory. John married his wife, Mary Lou, on a beautiful warm and sun-filled day in June of 1992. The two resided in Glocester, RI and shortly there after welcomed daughters Madison and McKenzie into the world, identical twins born Christmas Day. The joy, pride, happiness, and love that was present within the union of Mary Lou and John transcended through family and friends as they opened their hearts, their home, and their lives to all.

As this family grew, the twins began with sports and piano lessons, Mary Lou found her passion for tennis, and Johnny his lifetime love of hockey. This family was always together supporting each other and celebrating in their successes. While John's beaming excitement for his daughters' incredible academic and athletic careers flourished, the proud parents, Mary Lou and John supported their girls throughout all endeavors as they have grown into the mature women they are today.

John was a graduate of La Salle Academy (76'), Phillips Academy Andover (77') and Yale University (81'). He played his favorite past time, ice hockey, through all of his formative years and beyond. After graduating Yale, not ready to hang up those hockey skates, John began a professional hockey career in Europe playing in Puigcerda, Spain. In John's words, he lived in the mountains of Spain, learning to speak Spanish, living like a king and doing what he loved. The true team name was the Hielo Puigcerda Club and after two years, and the building of a new ice arena, John and his teammates won Spain's National Championship Title in 1982-83 - "Les Campiones!". To this day, John continued playing in Men's Hockey Leagues around the state with some of his closest friends.

Founder and owner of Meehan Builders, through his degree in Architecture from Yale, John created and delivered dream homes to countless families over the years, which he took great pride and joy in doing.

He wore many hats, as a great husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, and coach. John, Mary Lou, and the girls were always involved in supporting and celebrating the successes of friends and family in their lives. He was an excellent example of a humble man that gave endlessly of himself, was caring, and did all he could to support those around him. He was the friend that everyone could count on, the friend people could trust. The massive number of family and friends that have been touched will forever remember John, Johnny, or Rocko.

John leaves behind many friends from every walk of his life, his wife Mary Lou, daughters Madison & McKenzie, mother Muriel, brothers Jim, Brian, Colin, Kevin, sisters Patricia and Sharon, and all other additional immediate family, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

To the Salt of the Earth and the Light of the Word, we thank you for your presence in our lives. As we all go forth without you, may your light shine within each one of us. We love you!!
