Laurence Mendes, age 80 of Assonet, passed away Sep. 26, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Alice (Mello) Mendes and the son of the late Antone A. and Mary (Camara) Mendes. Prior to retiring, Larry owned Affordable Landscaping, and previously had worked for the Quincy Shipyard and Balfour Jewelry Mfg. Co. of Attleboro. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War, an avid fisherman and N.E. Patriots fan. In his later years he became an avid video gamer, even competing on-line.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Mark Mendes (wife Deborah) and Linda Marchesi both of Assonet; brother: Thomas Mendes; grandchildren: Gregory & David Mendes, Ashley Purcell, Kiera, Kelsie, & Keenan Marchesi; great grandchildren: Devin Silva, Bailey Mendes, Liam Marchesi, & Brody DeCambra. He was the father of the late Jessica M. Purcell and the brother of the late Robert & Edward Mendes; several nieces & nephews.
Following cremation, a visitation will take place on Saturday, Oct. 5th from 9-11 A.M. followed by a memorial service at 11 A.M. in the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1521 N. Main St. Fall River. Interment in Assonet Burying Grounds, Main St., Assonet. www.rogersfuneral.com.
