Obituary

Herbert E. Markham, Sr., 87, died Monday, July 8, 2013 at Phoebe Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.

Funeral services will be held 10 AM, Wednesday, July 10, 2013, in the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Paulk and the Rev. Allen Arowood officiating. Interment will follow at 2 PM in Andersonville National Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7-9 at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Markham was born May 30, 1926 in Byron, New York to the late Clark and Dorothy Nice Markham. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army. He was retired letter carrier in Buffalo, New York and Warsaw, New York. He moved to Fitzgerald in 1998 from Ft. Myers, Florida and was a member of First Assembly of God. Mr. Markham was a member of the American Legion and served as a Chaplain for the Veterans Administration in Dublin. A devoted giver, Mr. Markham always supported St Jude Children’s Hospital and the Paralyzed Veterans of America.

Mr. Markham is survived by 3 sons: Herbert “Herby” Markham of Mississippi, Robert E. Lee Markham of Wachula, Florida and James Markham of Fitzgerald; three daughters: Kathleen Kluka of Westminster, Maryland, Jennifer Lynn Markham of Auburndale, Florida and Mary Ann Temple of Oklahoma; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one sister: Vera Maitland of Bergen, New York. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Pauline Fulford Markham.
