New Bedford – Manuel F. Raposo, age 87, passed away on Thursday June 6, 2013 at Sacred Heart Home. He was the beloved husband of Zelia Raposo of New Bedford. Born in Bretanha, St. Michael, Azores, Portugal, he is the son of the late Maria Trindade (Carvalho) and the late Antonio F. Raposo. He moved to this area in 1951 and worked as a Presser at Alco Dress. Manuel was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and a part time Sexton at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.
His survivors include his wife Zelia; 3 children; Lucia Silva wife of Luis of New Bedford, Steven Raposo husband of Melissa of Freetown and Jorge Raposo of New Bedford: 2 siblings; Odelia Raposo and Jose Raposo both of New Bedford, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his siblings Maria Rego and Antonio Raposo.
Manuel’s funeral will be Monday, June 10 at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St, beginning at 8:00 A.M with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Sunday from 5 – 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to the American Cancer Society 30 Speen St, Framingham, MA 01701.
