Obituary

Laura L. (Lomba) Pires, 94, of New Bedford died December 22, 2012 peacefully at Alden Court Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Julio J. Pires.
Born in Brava, Cape Verde, the daughter of the late Jose C. and Maria (Lopes) Lomba, she lived in New Bedford since 1972.
She was a kind person who enjoyed taking care of others and she will be very missed.
Survivors include 4 sons, Jose Pires and Silvino Pires and his wife Lucy, all of New Bedford, Marcelino Pires and his wife Jeannie of Seekonk and Manny Pires and his wife Luisa of Cranston, RI; 3 daughters, Maria Mendes and her husband Danny of East Bridgewater, Ana St. Pierre and her husband Wilfred of Florida and Madeline Pires of New Bedford; a son-in-law, Antonio DaCosta of New Bedford; a brother, Julio DaLomba of New Bedford; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Eugenia DaCosta who died on December 16, 2012 and the sister of the late Frank, Manuel, Antonio, Joao, Ana and Eugenia.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Thursday, December 27th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, December 26th from 4-8 PM.
