Edward M. Cassel, Sr., age 73 of Clarksville, TN, died on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Gateway Medical Center.
He was born on June 6, 1939 in Hummelstown, PA to the late Luther H. Cassel and Mary J. Etter.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at 12 p.m., at Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Chapel, with Rev. Jamie Mandrell officiating. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-West. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 from 4-7 p.m., and Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from 11 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Edward was a Retired U.S. Army Veteran. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He completed First Sergeant Course in 1981. He was the recipient of numerous military awards, some of which included the Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), Vietnam Service Medal with seven Campaign Stars, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Oak Leaf Cluster). He was a member of the American Legion in Hummelstown, PA. He was currently employed by the State of Tennessee Board of Probation and Parole.
He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Linda Cassel of Clarksville, TN; three sons, Bret Drummond, Edward (Cindy) M. Cassel, Jr. and Mark (Mindy) A. Cassel, all of Clarksville, TN; daughter, Patricia (Phillip) A. Arms of Clarksville, TN; brother, Ronald (Barb) Cassel of Pennsylvania; sister, Mary (Buck) Wagner of Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren, Hunter Arms, Dawson Arms, Bailey Cassel, Brandon Cassel, Madeline A. Cassel, Sara Rehm and Marshall Arms; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Hunter Arms, Marc Price, Mark Chinetti, Billy Church, Phillip Arms and Tannie Chisolm. Honorary Pallbearers will be Wally Church, Steve Miller, Joe Ladd, Robert LeFleche and Robin Davis.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
