Mr. Carmen J. Russo, 85 of Medford formerly of Boston’s North End, died on Friday at Lexington Health Care. He is the beloved husband of the late Maria O. (Antolini) Russo. Mr. Russo was born in Boston’s North End, son of the late Augustino and Nicolina Russo. He attended schools there and remained a resident until moving to Medford in 1956. Mr. Russo was in the fruit and produce business most of his life, In early years he worked with his parents and family in Russo’s Fruit and Produce Store on Prince Street for several years. He also worked at the famous Haymarket Fruit and Vegetable Stands for over 50 years. He was also an employee of the Comm. Of MA. Dep’t of Public Works, as an engineer.
Carmen loved the North End. He took his children faithfully to visit his parents there every Sunday. He was always excited as St., Anthony’s Feast was approaching. Carmen was a faithful communicant of St. Joseph’s Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was also a participant in the prayer group there. He was also active in St. Joseph’s Grenadier’s CYO Band. He was a regular at St. Joseph’s Bingo and a willing participant in St. Joseph’s Musicals as a singer and dancer. He enjoyed the ministries on Boston Catholic Television. He is the beloved father of Augustine Russo, Cecile Russo, Anna Marie Willdigg and her husband John all of Medford. Loving grandfather of Carmen, John and Amanda Willdigg, Lisa Russo and Michael O’Rourke. Loving brother of Ann Caggiano of Malden and the late Beatrice Parziale, Angelo, Frank and Silvio Russo. Also survived by several loving nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD Wednesday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 10 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 thru 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
