Obituary

John J. “Jack” Clemons, 77, of Fitzgerald, died Monday, March 26, 2012, at Dorminy Medical Center.

Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, March 28, in the Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Earlie Holt officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Tuesday Evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Clemons was born July 8, 1934 in LaGrange, Georgia to the late Barney and Annie Rogers Clemons. He lived in Fitzgerald most of his life, graduating from Fitzgerald High School. Mr. Clemons was a former employee of the Fitzgerald Cotton Mill and Home Gas Company. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War Era. Mr. Clemons was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, formerly Callie Garbutt Baptist Church and the American Legion, Post 99.

He is survived by his wife, Shizue Mikawa Clemons of Opelika, AL; daughter, Edna P. Clemons Cumbee of Opelika, AL; grandchildren, Jennifer & Jeffery Buckingham of Smiths, AL and Lindsey & Ian Pierce of Phenix City, Al; great grandchildren, Emmaleigh Carroll and Aubree Buckingham; sisters, Patricia Smith of Fitzgerald, Nadine & Tony Ware of Opelika, AL and Ruby Clemons of Fitzgerald as well as several nieces and nephews and other extended family and care givers. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, John T. Cumbee, four brothers and three sisters.
