James Howard Barton Obituary - Water Valley MS

James Howard Barton, age 76, died on Monday, November 14, 2011 at the MED in Memphis, TN due to complications from a burn injury. He was born October, 16, 1935 in Yalobusha County, MS to the late George Vernon and Gertrude Reid Barton. Howard served in United States Army National Guard. He was self-employed in several businesses including Barton Service and Brainerd Compressor, Inc. in Memphis, TN. He was an active member and deacon of Carriage Hills Baptist Church in Southaven, MS where he lived before retiring and moving to his home on Enid Lake. He was presently an active member and deacon of Sylva Rena Baptist Church in Water Valley, MS. His hobbies were horses and tractors. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He worked hard all his life and loved helping others.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 16, 2011 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Sylva Rena Baptist Church in Water Valley, MS. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Sylva Rena Baptist Church with Bro. Hal Clark and Bro. David Roberson officiating. Burial will be in the Ford’s Well Cemetery in Oakland, MS with Charles Barton, Danny Barton, Paul Barton, Mike Robinson, Lee Reid, Ramond Austin, Tommy Austin and Eddie Rodgers serving as pallbearers. Jack Biggers, James Smith, Rickey Ragon, Lane True, Bill Norris, Larry Lawler,
Ray Eubanks, Travis Brooks, Lee Pullen and Edwin Bonner will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Howard is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn Sanders Barton of Oakland, MS; two daughters, Tammy Wilkerson of Southaven, MS and Gina (Chris) Roberts of Olive Branch, MS; two sons, Mike (Dana) Barton of Hernando, MS and Barry (Tonya) Barton of Hernando, MS; one brother, Larry Barton of Nesbit, MS; seven grandchildren, Jenna Wilkerson, Luke Barton, Bradley Barton,Shelbie Barton, Jackson Roberts, Emmy Roberts and Eliza Roberts.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Quay Hudson.
