Roland Scott McCullar
Roland Scott McCullar, age 88, of Water Valley, MS died Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Yalobusha General Hospital. Born in Pope, MS December 13, 1922 to the late James Clifton and Medora Kirkland McCullar, Roland served in the U. S. Navy during WWII and came back home to work as a bookkeeper at Rice Stix in Water Valley, MS. He retired as a Chevrolet Dealership Business Manager after 20 years in Dresden and McKenzie, TN. He was a member of the Water Valley VFW Post, #4100 and was a member of the American Legion in Dresden, TN. His delight was playing golf with his buddies at the Yalobusha Country Club, and he faithfully served as a deacon at First Presbyterian Church in Water Valley.
Services are planned for Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 2 PM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Harold Sprayberry officiating. Visitation will be from 1 PM until service time at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Pinecrest Cemetery in Yalobusha County with his grandsons serving as pallbearers.
Roland is survived by his wife, Bertha Coker McCullar of Water Valley, MS; one daughter, Sue Ray and her husband, Bill, of Union City, TN; a step-son, Bob Coker of Water Valley, MS; 2 daughters-in-law, Maudie McCullar of The Villages, FL and Beverly Coker of Southaven, MS; 5 grandchildren, K. K. Robinson, Leslie Little, Kim Shannon, Christy Coker Huff, and Sean Coker; 11 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Scott McCullar; a step-son, John Coker; 2 sisters, Betty Rhodes and Mildred Tubbs; 3 brothers, James McCullar, Henry McCullar, and Arthur Gaines McCullar; and one grandson, Tony Rhea Watkins.
