Obituary

Tiverton, RI – Elizabeth Rae (Armstrong) Low, 88, of Wilton, ME and formerly of Irondequoit, NY died Wednesday, April 20, 2005 after a brief illness. She was the widow of Walter Norman Low to whom she was married for 55 years.

She was born in the small town of Vanceboro, ME, daughter of the late entrepreneur and inventor Stillman Armstrong and the late Adelle (Levesque) Armstrong. Mrs. Low graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington with a Bachelors Degree in Nutrition. She served her country in Washington, DC as a member of the Marine Corps during World War II. She was active in the United Church of Christ serving as a Deacon, Trustee and member of the church choir for over 40 years.

Her love of history inspired her to write historical essays about Vanceboro, one of which was published in Down East Magazine’s anthology about railroading “All Aboard.” Mrs. Low will be remembered by her family and friends as an inspired cook and for her great love of the outdoors, gardening and movies. She believed passionately in education and passed this on to her children.

She is survived by a son: Thomas A. Low and his wife Patricia A. Low of Rochester, NY; a daughter: Bette Ann Low and her husband Edmund A. Rooney, Jr. of Westport, MA; a sister: Florence J. Armstrong of Exeter, NH; 2 grandchildren: Mica J. Low of Westport and Christian A. Low of Indianapolis, IN; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, April 23, 2005 at Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport at 10:00 A.M.

Visitation will be Friday 7 – 8 P.M. at the Potter Funeral Home.
