Rev. Emory E. Champion, 80, of Fitzgerald died Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.
Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at the Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Lester Anthony officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Monday evening at the funeral home.
Rev. Champion was born September 12, 1929 in Fitzgerald to the late C.J. and Nellie Barnes Champion. He was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School and served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He served as Pastor of the Fitzgerald First Assembly of God. Rev. Champion also retired as a communications crew chief at Robins Air Force Base. He had lived in the community for most of his life.
Rev. Champion is survived by his sons & daughters-in-law: Robert & Wanda Champion of Dalton, David Champion, Donald & Elaine Champion and Ronald & Connie Champion, all of Fitzgerald; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife: Peggie Chesser Champion and a sister: Peggy K. Cleghorn.
