Roger L. “Bill” Alewine, 65, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Thursday, March 26, 2009, at Dorminy Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M. Saturday, March 28, at Lebanon Baptist Church in Wilcox County with Rev. Chuck Taylor, Rev. Harris Johnson and Rev. Mark Brooks officiating. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Ben Hill County. Visitation will be held 7-9 Friday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Alewine was born August 22, 1943 in Rebecca to the late Horace and Elsie Jane Butler Alewine. He lived in the community for the past 35 years and was a former resident of Atlanta and Abbeville. Mr. Alewine was a drywall mechanic, a former employee of Trendsetter Homes and a former employee for the City of Fitzgerald, working at Evergreen Cemetery.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Donna & Ellis Green of Rebecca, Christina & Donnie White of Fitzgerald, Cecillia & Mark Brooks of Abbeville and Melissa Alewine & Scott Brown of Fitzgerald; son and daughter-in-law, Jamie & Penny Alewine of Rebecca; 21 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; brother, John & Betty Alewine of Abbeville as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Alewine and 3 brothers.
