Obituary

Gary Lee Henton, 61, of Ben Hill County died Monday, January 14, 2008 at the Life Care Center in Fitzgerald.

Funeral services will be held 10A.M. Thursday, January 17, 2008 at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rex Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, GA. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mr. Henton was born January 28, 1946 in Olney, Illinois to Betty Jo Xander Henton and the late Junior Henton. He was a 1964 graduate of Edwards County High School, Albion, IL and was a graduate of Chessie System Locomotive Engineer School in Cumberland, MD. Mr. Henton moved to Ben Hill County in 1987 from Washington, Indiana. He was a locomotive engineer retiring from CSX Railroad after 32 years. Mr. Henton was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, the VFW and the American Legion in Washington, IN. He was a veteran in the United States Army, serving in Vietnam from 1966-1967. He was a member of Saint Ann’s Episcopal Church in Tifton.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Karen Lee Henton of Ben Hill County; mother, Betty Jo Henton of Bone Gap, IL; daughters, Penny Brown of Washington, IN, Robin Brown of Cordele and Vickie (Dewight) Harper of Mystic; 9 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter; brothers, Larry (Marilyn) Henton of Bone Gap, IL and Tom (Belinda) Henton of Olney, IL.
