Obituary

James A. Dumas Jr., 71 of Walpole died October 13 in his daughter’s home in Medfield following a long illness. He was the husband of the late Helen (Smith) Dumas.
Born in Walpole, May 29, 1937, the son of Dorothy (Buckman) Dumas of Walpole and the late James A. Dumas, Mr. Dumas was raised in Walpole and had lived in Medfield for several years before returning to Walpole 20 years ago.
Mr. Dumas had been a laborer.
Mr. Dumas served in the Marine Corps during the late 1950’s.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his son, Jeffrey J. Dumas and his wife, Jennifer of Franklin and his daughter, Sheryl Johnson and her husband, Mathew of Medfield. He was the father of the late James A. Dumas, III.
He is also survived by his fiancé, Ursula Vogtman of Walpole, his sisters, Beatrice Bonneau of Plainville, Dorothy Loring of Sweden, Maine and Susan Edwards of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He was the brother of the late Jeannette Driscoll.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Eden, Brandi, Sarah and Matthew.
His funeral will be held on Friday, October 17 from the Ginley Funeral Home, 892 Main St. in Walpole at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in Blessed Sacrament Church in Walpole at 10:00 a.m.
Following cremation, burial will be in Vine Lake Cemetery in Medfield.
Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445.
