Mrs. Ferne Ellis Meredith, 96, of Ocilla, died Sunday, October 12, 2008, at Osceola Nursing Home in Ocilla.
Graveside services will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, October 15 in the Hillcrest Memorial Park in Augusta, Georgia with Rev. Scott Brenton officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Tuesday evening at Paulk Funeral Home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Meredith was born May 16, 1912 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Dr. Samuel Burton and Etta Louise Daniel Ellis. Growing up as a child, Mrs. Meredith lived in Lulu, FL, as well as Whitesburg, Pitts and Valdosta, GA. She attended Georgia State Women’s College in Valdosta. She was a former employee of Friedlander’s Department Store in Valdosta and a homemaker. She was a former resident of Orangeburg, SC and she also lived in Augusta for 46 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Augusta. Mrs. Meredith had lived in Ocilla since 1999 when she returned to be near her family. She was also an avid bridge player.
She is survived by her sister: Mrs. Nellie Ruth Mann of Ocilla as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband: Thomas Crayton Meredith.
