Edward M. Shoemaker, 87, of Fitzgerald died Tuesday, August 16, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 19, 2011 at Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, Georgia with the Rev. Chuck Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Thursday evening at Paulk Funeral Home.
Mr. Shoemaker was born May 26, 1924 in Novinger, Missouri. A former P.O.W., he served in the United States Army for twenty years, having served in WW II, Korea and Vietnam, retiring as a Staff Sergeant. After his retirement he worked as a pipe fitter on off shore oil wells. Mr. Shoemaker was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church in Wilcox County and a member of the American Legion, Post 99.
He is survived by his stepchildren: Ted (Bea) Tilson of Fitzgerald, JoAnn (James) Farley of Fayetteville, NC and Patricia (Clay) Parker of Saint Francisville, LA; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Johnson Shoemaker.
