DENNIS/SPENCER; John H. “Jack” Begley, 72, of Dennis, formerly of Spencer, died suddenly Tuesday, October 5 in Dennis.
He leaves his wife of 45 years, Teresa A. (Devereux) Begley, a son, Michael J. Begley and his wife Jennifer of Milton, two daughters; Melissa A. Begley of Sturbridge, Kathryn E. Blevens and her husband Chuck of Seattle, WA.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of Leo & Pauline (Thibault) Begley and lived most of his life in Spencer before moving to Dennis in 2000.
Jack was a graduate of David Prouty High School in Spencer, Clark University and Worcester State College and he was an Army veteran. He was also a life member of the Knights of Columbus 118 in Spencer.
He began his teaching career in 1964 at West Boylston High School. In 1982, he became the principal of David Prouty Junior High School in Spencer and then was named assistant superintendent in 1987. After three years, he moved up to the superintendent’s post in 1990. He retired from that position in 1999 and moved to Cape Cod.
Jack was an avid kayaker and New England sports fan, and enjoyed spending time at the ocean, both on the Cape and in Vero Beach, Fla.
The Funeral will be held Saturday, October 9 from the J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer with a Mass at 10 A.M. in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church St., Spencer. Burial will follow in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery, Spencer. Calling hours are Friday from 5-7 P.M. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the D.P.H.S.
