John Morandi, 96

John Morandi, 96, a lifelong resident of Sharon passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Sunday August 22, 2010. He was the beloved husband of the late Katherine M. (O’Donnell) Morandi.
Born in Norwood, MA on December 19,1913 he was a loving son of the late Roberto and Virginia (Gallazzi) Morandi.
John grew up in Sharon and was a graduate of Sharon High School. A self employed Contractor, Mr. Morandi was the proud owner and founder of John Morandi Inc., a company which specialized in road building and land development. He started the company in 1949 and after many years of hard work retired in 1982.
A communicant of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Sharon, John was very active in Sharon town affairs. He was a former member of the Dr. Griffin Playground Committee and generously built 2 playground fields for the youth of Sharon.
John was a former active member of the Sharon Planning Board. He was also a former member of the Sharon Rotary Club and the Local # 4 Portable Hoisting Engineers. Mr. Morandi was also an avid New England baseball and football enthusiast.
He was the brother of the late Mario Morandi and Michael Morandi and is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday August 26th at 11:00 A.M. at the Rock Ridge Cemetery in Sharon.
Visiting hours are omitted and in lieu of flowers John’s family has requested that donations in his memory may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute 44 Binney St. Boston, MA 02115.
