Obituary

William W. “Bill” Bateman, Jr., 63 of Ocilla, Georgia, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Friday, March 12 at the Ocilla United Methodist Church with Rev. Kirk Loyless and Rev. Scott Brenton officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.

Mr. Bateman was born November 24, 1946 in Franklinton, Louisiana to William Wade Bateman and the late Joyce Abney Bateman. He started his law enforcement career as a classification officer at Angola State Prison in Louisiana. He was a former employee of the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Department where he also worked with the Capital District Law Enforcement. He was a former warden in Demopolis, Alabama and retired warden with the Irwin County Detention Center. Mr. Bateman served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War era. He was a member of the Ocilla United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Church Council, the Prayer Garden Committee and PPR Chairman. Mr. Bateman was an avid golfer, a member of the Ocilla Lions Club, Ocilla Country Club and enjoyed crossword puzzles.

He is survived by his father: W. Wade Bateman of Franklinton, LA; sons: Ty Lusk of Ocilla and Joel Lusk of Savannah; granddaughter: Elena Jane Lusk of Dallas, TX. Along with his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharyn Lynn Ford Bateman.
