Obituary

WORCESTER___Gregory P. Stockmal, 56, of Worcester died Sunday December 21, 2008 in St. Vincent Hospital, 123 Summer St.

He leaves his wife of 36 years. Carol Ann (Gablaski) Stockmal, his sisters and brothers, Katherine Bontos and her husband Anthony of Orlando, Fl., Jonathan Stockmal and his wife Dorothy of Worcester; Mark Stockmal of Portsmouth, Va., his twin, Jeffrey Stockmal of San Jose, Ca., Stephen Stockmal and his wife Patricia of Brookfield; Joseph Stockmal and his wife Catherine of Holden and Paula Mastromatteo and her husband Richard of Worcester; his aunt, Mary Senkavitch of Worcester; several nieces and nephews, a great niece and cousins. He was born in Worcester, a son of Walter A. and Emily (Senkavitch) Stockmal and lived here all his life.

Mr. Stockmal was a mental health worker 38 years at Worcester State Hospital and was still working at the time of his death. He was a member for several years of the Worcester Historical Commission, was an honorary lifetime associate of the Board of Directors of the Worcester County Poetry Association and was a member of the Blackstone Valley Interpreter Network and was a Historical Intrepreter. He served as a Historical Intrepreter for Stanley Kunitz, a former Poet Laureate of the United States. He did this at the former Kunitz home which is also Gregory’s home. Mr. Stockmal served in the U.S. Air Force National Guard.

The funeral will be held on Monday, December 29 from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street, with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. John Church 40 Temple St. Burial will be private. Calling hours in the funeral home are Sunday, December 28 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Flowers may be sent or memorial contributions may be made to Worcester County Poetry Association, 1 Ekman St., Worcester, Ma., 01607.
