Obituary

Gilford-Margaret “Peg” (Henry) Gordon, 99, died Sunday morning, September 14, 2008.

Peg was born in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts on March 22, 1909 the daughter of the late Ralph Coolidge and Frances (Stanton Cumming) Henry. She had been a resident of Gilford for the past 30 years, and was a member of the Gilford Community Church.

Peg graduated from Wellesley College in 1930, and the Vespar George Art School in Boston. She worked in Boston as a free-lance artist specializing in fashion and furniture illustrations.

Peg was a lover of nature, hiking in the White Mountains with her family and was a member of the Audubon Society. She was also a member of the Opechee Garden Club. She loved to watch the birds, squirrels, and an occasional bear from the dining room window. She was an avid reader and loved doing crossword puzzles. She also cherished her cats Inky and Binky, and her two dogs Cesar and Buffer.

Besides her parents, Peg was predeceased by her husband, Mark Gordon; her sister, Elizabeth (Henry) Kirchberg; and two nephews, Christopher J. and William H. Kirchberg.

Peg is survived by her two nieces, Frances E. Kirchberg of Salem, Massachusetts, and Marie A. Kirchberg of Jericho, Vermont; one great-nephew, Eric W. Kirchberg of Roslindale, Massachusetts; three great-nieces Christine Kirchberg Jones of Huntsville Alabama, Lisa Stephanie Kirchberg of Fairfield, Iowa, and Susanna Kirchberg of Rutersville-La Grange, Texas. She is also survived by a cousin, Phyllis H. Stevens of Arlington, Massachusetts.

A celebration of Peg’s life was held at the Gilford Community Church, 19 Potter Hill Road, Gilford, New Hampshire on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at 11 a.m., Rev. Michael C. Graham, pastor of the church will officiated. A social hour followed in the church hall.
