Obituary

DRACUT - Dorothy A. (Fitzgerald) Hudzik, 73, a resident of Dracut, died on Thursday, August 2nd after a long illness. She was the loving wife of the late Edward J. Hudzik who died in 1999.

She was born on February 26, 1934 in Lowell, a daughter of the late James P. and Josephine (O'Donnell) Fitzgerald and graduated from St. Patrick High School, class of 1951, and was president of her class.

Mrs. Hudzik was employed by the New England Telephone Company where she worked as a telephone operator for many years. Most recently she worked for Wang Laboratory until retiring 1992.

She was a Eucharistic Minister and a Lector for several local parishes, most recently at St. Mary Magdalen Church. Mrs. Hudzik was also a member of the Carmelite Prayer Group.

In her free time she volunteered at Radius Nothwood Healthcare Center, D'Youville Senior Care Center, Lowell Day Nursery and the Dracut Senior Center. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and enjoyed vacationing at the beach.

She is survived by four daughters, Marcella M. Hudzik of Dracut, Kathleen A. Smith and her husband Richard of Dracut, Annemarie Martineau and her husband Rodney of Dracut, and MaryJo Abreu and her husband Michael of Dracut, a son, Edward J. Hudzik, Jr. and his wife Diane of Dracut; her sister, Virginia Fitzgerald of Lowell; three brothers, Leonard Fitzgerald and his wife Shirley of Lowell, Donald Fitzgerald of Lowell, and Paul Fitzgerald and his wife Lidia of Edinburg, TX; fifteen grandchildren, George Abreu and Bryan Durand, Kaileigh and Elyssia Abreu, Richard Smith, Jr. and Holly Smith, Meaghan, Amanda and Matthew Martineau, Rebecca, Noah, Jacob, Ethan, Genesis and Luke Hudzik; her great granddaughter, Kayleen Durand of Westford; sister-in-law, Josephine Kuzek of Lowell; several nephews and nieces.

She was also the mother of the late Rosemary Hudzik who died in 1965, and the sister of the late Raymond Fitzgerald, and the sister-in-law of the late Dorothy Fitzgerald and the late Kathleen Fitzgerald.

Friends may call at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Her funeral service will be held from the funeral home on Tuesday at 8 AM, followed by her Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 9 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Dracut. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Lowell.
