Olza Fay Ice, 95, of Anderson, passed away at home on February 22, 2019.
She was born on March 22, 1923 in Russell County, Kentucky to Lenis and Eliza Ellen (Chapman) Blakey. Olza graduated from Jamestown Kentucky High School in 1943 and attended Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia Kentucky. She briefly taught school in Kentucky in a one-room School before relocating to Anderson in the mid-1940's. She was employed at the Delco Remy plant 10 of General Motors for 41 years as an inspector retiring in 1985. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and assisting with her grandchildren after retirement. She was regarded the premier cook in the family and her Southern cuisine was sought out at family dinners and reunions.
Olza was a member of United Auto Workers 662. She was a member of the New Horizons United Methodist Church in Anderson. Previously, she had been a long time member of the First Evangelical United Brethren Church in Anderson and served as a children's Sunday school teach and choir member before merger with the Methodist Church in the late 1960's.
She is survived by her son, Monte (Belinda) of Fort Wayne; daughter, Belinda (Dan) Flickinger of Noblesville; granddaughter, Susan (Seung Chul) Hong of Chicago; grandsons, Daniel (Mary) Flickinger of Indianapolis and Christopher Ice of St. Paul, MN; granddaughter, Camille Ice of Fort Wayne; great grandchildren, Ian and Lia Hong of Chicago and Joseph and Vivienne Flickinger of Indianapolis, and several nieces and nephews in Florida, Indiana, and Kentucky.
Olza was preceded in death by her husband George in June 2017, her parents, as well as five sisters and an infant brother, Marcus.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 12 Noon, at New Horizon's United Methodist Church, with Rev. Brad Hensley officiating. Burial will follow at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the church on Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be given to New Horizons United Methodist Church.
