Sharon Louise Howard

Sharon L. Howard lost her 2 year battle with pulmonary hypertension on October 23, 2018 at the age of 77. Born to Joseph and Maxine Duggan on February 24, 1941 in East Chicago, Indiana, she grew up in Hammond, graduating from Hammond High School in 1959.
Thinking she would be a professional oboe player, she was accepted into the music school at Indiana University. Realizing this might not be the best career choice, she changed majors and graduated with a degree in English and Education. She enjoyed sorority life at I.U. as a member of Gamma Phi Beta.Two months after graduation; Sharon married Max Howard, whom she met on a blind date at I.U. They were devotedly married for 55 years.
While teaching German at Lawrence Central High School, Sharon earned a Masters Degree from Butler University in Guidance and Counseling. As the course of Max's job transfers, the Howards lived in Farmington, Michigan and Glenview, IL, where Sharon was a counselor at Barnum Jr. High and Arlington Heights High School.
1970 brought Max and Sharon back to Indiana. Max set up his law practice in Anderson and Sharon became a full time mom to their son Todd. Sharon volunteered in various organizations including Tri Kappa and the Victoria Guild at St. John's Hospital. Sharon had various hobbies. She enjoyed tennis, golf with Max and his friends at Anderson Country Club and the Sagamore Club. She loved reading, as well as watching sports on television. Her favorite leisure time activity was playing bridge. She played Duplicate Bride at the Indianapolis Bridge Center, where she served on the Board of Directors, serving as secretary several years and later volunteering as the bookkeeper. In her quest to become a Life Master, she traveled through out the country and even to Toronto participating in tournaments. She was proud to have attainted the status of Silver Life Master.
Sharon is survived by her wonderful husband, Max Howard of Noblesville, and her much loved son, Todd, of Denver, Colorado. She is also survived by Max's sister and husband, Donna and Harold Daily of Columbus, Indiana, and Max's brother and wife, Norman and Marsha Howard of Sun City, Arizonia, and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
She was preceded in death by an older sister, Joyce Duggan, her parents, aunts and uncles including two special aunts, Helen and Irene Duggan.
Sharon chose to be cremated. Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service is handling arrangements. Her family will honor her with a Celebration of Life at a later date.
